Parks and Recreation Department

Welcome to the City of Sullivan’s Parks & Recreation Department. Our mission is to provide well-maintained, inviting green spaces, recreation facilities and aquatic amenities where residents and visitors of all ages can relax, play and connect with the outdoors. From our 50-acre City Park to the seasonal City Pool, we’re committed to safe, accessible, fun offerings for the entire community.

Cody McKinley serves as the Superintendent of our Parks & Recreation Department, appointed by the Mayor to lead operations and maintenance for the park, pool and recreational facilities. Under his leadership the department focuses on responsive service, clean and safe amenities, and enhancing our parks to serve Sullivan’s needs today and tomorrow.

What We Offer

Our department manages and maintains the City Park, the City Pool Complex, and associated recreational amenities located at the 600 block of South Main Street, just six blocks south of the Courthouse Square.

Key features include:

  • The 50-acre City Park with paved paths, large open lawns, tree-lined settings and year-round access.

  • Aquatic facility: City Pool entry fee is $5, with children age five and under admitted free; season passes and private rentals are available via our online portal.

  • Recreation amenities: outdoor stage, playgrounds, tennis courts, soccer fields, softball and football fields, basketball court, pickleball court, picnic tables, shelter houses (open and enclosed).

  • Full-service support: public restrooms, shelter house reservations, and well-maintained grounds for both casual visitors and organized events.

Resident Friendly Tips & Services

We strive to make the park and pool experience easy, safe and enjoyable—here are a few things you can do:

  • Reserve a shelter house or pool event early: Our online system allows you to manage reservations and memberships with convenience.

  • Check seasonal schedules: Keep an eye on pool open-hours, special events, and park maintenance notices.

  • Bring the whole family: With playgrounds and courts for all ages, the park delivers both active and passive recreation.

  • Pack smart: For pool days, bring towels, sunscreen and any necessary swim gear; the park is great for picnics or passive strolls as well.

  • Respect the grounds: Help us keep the park clean and safe by disposing of trash, staying within designated play areas, and supervising children at the pool.

  • Restroom facilities are open from 7 AM to 7 PM between April 1 and 1 November.
