Office of the Mayor
The Mayor’s Office provides leadership and direction for the City of Sullivan’s day-to-day operations and long-term strategic goals. As the city’s chief executive, the Mayor enforces the city ordinances and state statutes, prepares the city budget for Council review, signs all official city bonds, deeds and contracts, appoints department heads and board members, and oversees the executive departments under his supervision.
J.D. Wilson is the elected Mayor of the City of Sullivan, Indiana. A 1995 graduate of Sullivan High School, he joined the Indiana National Guard in 1996 and served full time beginning in 2000. During his service he was deployed to Bosnia in 2002 and to Iraq in 2003. After retiring from the Guard in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree from Oakland City University, he returned to serve his community as Director of Public Works and now as Mayor. Mayor Wilson is married to Jaime and they have four children and two grandchildren.
Key Responsibilities

Enforce the City’s ordinances and Indiana statutes.

Submit a statement of the finances and the general condition of the city to the City Council at least once a year.

Provide written recommendations to the City Council on actions to support the city’s welfare.

Arrange special City Council meetings as needed and sign all official city contracts and licenses.

Appoint department heads, supervise city departments, and prepare the city budget.
